Writen by Wycliffe Williams

When the Video Games Playstation 2 was released back in 2000, there was much anticipation in the air. It piggybacked on the groundwork of its pathfinder predecessor, Playstation.

Playstation 2 stormed the video game market and floored Nintendo and Sega. Playstation 2 sits high and lonely at the top of the home video games league for the system with the ability to play back over 1,600 games.

In addition, Playstation 2 has the widest selection of video game titles ever. Some of its most popular titles include:

• Grand Theft Auto

• Gran Turismo

• Final Fantasy

• Medal of Honor

• Metal Gear Solid

• Resident Evil

• Tekken

• Madden NFL

• Crash Bandicoot

• Sly Cooper

• And hundreds of others.

Listed below are some of the 'tricks' Playstation 2 can do standing on its head:

• play commercial DVDs and CDs

• two controllers

• multi-tap connectivity for up to eight simultaneous players

• online connectivity

• separate network adaptor

• separate 20GB hard drive

• wireless controllers

• driving controllers

• and Eye Toy a device used in virtual reality games.

With all of that on the dashboard there can't be room for much more. But no, Sony promises to outdo itself with Playstation 3. Sony refuses to become a bridesmaid. Second best just will not do in their camp.

Here are a few things that Sony expects to deliver with Playstation 3:

• higher processing speeds

• more powerful graphic capabilities

• lifelike, cinematic-quality computer-generated graphics.

• PS3 will play back CDs, DVDs, PS2 video games, and PlayStation One video games.

• Sony promises to make a media center of your living room

• new video games on Sony's new proprietary Blu-ray disc

• the Blu-ray disc can hold more than five DVDs worth of content

• online capability

• wireless connection to the PSP

• support up to seven game controllers

• and finally, exciting and stunning new video games whose release are lined up to coincide with the release of Playstation 3.

We are the beneficiaries of a video game war that has spilled over into our living rooms. Enjoy the ride while you can.
